Blog 5 How I survived 2020...

January 20, 2021

Dear Family, Friends, and Clients,

Hope you all had a great holiday season!  It was a bit different this year due to COVID-19 but we all made it. Let's recap on my crazy year of 2020.

January - It was a new year to start.  The whole "New Year, New Me." saying...  Instead of me saying that, I wanted to make improvements on myself and my career.

February - When I heard about the coronavirus the first time over the news, I was scared and worried.  When I noticed my business was slowing down, I had a feeling we were going to be shut down.

March - I made my 8 year mark anniversary as a licensed cosmetologist. The big news I did not want to hear.  Personal services was shutdown. I was devastated and did not know what to do and what to think about my financial hardships.

April - Marketing was my plan for the longest time for my business so I got serious with it during quarantine.  I started to watch webinars through zoom meetings from Pixel Parlour located in Kent.  I filed unemployment for the first time after they passed the bill for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance for small businesses.

May - We got approved to Phase 2 on my birthday on May 28th in Kitsap County to reopen businesses after about three months. We immediately reopened the shop the next day. I was excited to go back to work and finally got paid from unemployment after waiting for ten weeks pending.  The week before my birthday, I was on tv on KOMO4 news and was one of the chosen ones to talk about my opinion about unemployment fraud.  I also got the stimulus check.

June - I had a big influx at work and it was the busiest month I had.

July - Work started to slow down again. I was frustrated and stressed out due to my financial.  My sister gave birth to her first child and I have another niece named Arielle. I started hiking again.

August - I picked up a second job as a door dasher since I was struggling to pay my bills due to work slowing down.

September - I partnered with Reign from Seattle to do all my marketing services.  I have been friends with the founder, Brian Franada, for five years now.  I chose this company because Brian is very proficient and his team is very well organized. I have attended their events in the past and had great experiences with them.

October - I made my 8 year work anniversary at "A" Barber Shop in Silverdale. I had a work event for it and that was very fun.

November - Thanksgiving was spent at my sister's place in Bellevue with my parents. It was nice spending time with family.  We had our second lockdown on November 18th due to Governor Inslee.  I was glad personal services wasn't shut down this time but it was down to 25% capacity and still had to follow the protocols.

December - Christmas and New Years Eve was spent at home due to the lockdown still and was extended until January 4th.

What I learned in 2020 was to not take things for granted, to have faith, be patient, have perseverance, and not to GIVE UP  on your passion.  I put my trust in God that things will get better.

Surviving this year was incredibly hard, frustrating and stressful but I overcame my mistakes and learned from them.

Hopefully 2021 will be a better year for us.
